This playlist is everything, thank you. And as a former music and audio engineering major, I love that you do field recordings. Also, those massive apartment buildings. I grew up in one in Queens, but the imposing stature of these buildings still get to me.
You were an audio engineer? So coo! Making the field recordings may be my favorite part of this project. I think the brutalist design of the M.A.R isn't doing the complex any favors. Thanks for checking out the playlist too! I had no idea so much much came out of the neighborhood until I started looking into it.
OMG. I'll be going through this post a couple of times. The ironing board made me laugh out loud. And the Morrisania Air Rights - what a concept, but I can't imagine living there. Now to put the headphones on and listen to some jazz and doo-wop. Thanks so much for posting these, but feel free to slow down so I can keep up. :)
Haha! I know it can be a lot to keep up with but I still have over 250 neighborhoods to go so if I want to have any chance of finishing this project I've got to keep cranking them out. Thanks!
The musical legacy of this neighborhood is a strong and important one.
Indeed, I had no idea!
Incredible post. How much time do you put into these? They are so deeply researched, beautifully written, and evocative. In awe!
I put way too much time into these so I'm extra appreciative when I hear people enjoy them. Thanks!
PS Great audio this week btw. Hope you’re over your sniffles.
And what is that ironing board so happy about?
Thanks! Sniffles gone but I can always revisit my recordings if I start to miss them.
I think the ironing board loves that rainbow colored building in the background, or maybe it's just compensating for that sinking construction cone.
That cone is a heartbreaker.
And omg that window display!
“Morrisania Air Rights” so funny! And just look at that thing!
It's quite a complex and I love the name

I'd said 'Jabba' before I spotted your caption. Another evocative post. Thanks!
Thanks Will - Gooddé da lodia!
