Happy one year! I'm a late joiner to your Neighborhoods saga but I'm already hooked and can't wait to read issues from the archives. When you make your way over to Bushwick, I'd be happy to show you around!

I believe the area near the "cemetery belt" was also known as "brewer's row" back in the day (particularly the Bushwick chunk to the west). Lots of famous folks who founded those breweries are buried in those cemeteries.

Thanks Eden! didn't know that about Brewer's Row! I imagine there are lots of famous folks who drank at those breweries buried there as well. Looking forward to reading your newsletter!

Happy Anniversary!!! I can attest, as a German, that any park is basically a beer garden ;)

Any time I think there's no better #sistersnottwins example, you basically force me to hold my beer! I need to step up my game here in Jersey City.

Love the Laundry ghost sign! And thank you for bringing back memories of Kegelbahnen. It reminds me of all kinds of variations you can play with teams. Those photos by Robert Götzfried are fantastic. As for Zum Stammtisch, I'll probably stay away hahaha. The Lederhosen and warthog heads are warning enough. It sounds very Bavarian to me, which reminds me: Germans often stereotypically think all of America is like Texas, while Americans think Bavaria equals Germany LOL.

So you are telling me that there are Germans who don't wear lederhosen?? We need a Kegelbahnen revival in the states.

Thanks as always for reading and chiming in Nat, Prost!

Congrats on a year of The Neighborhoods. Enjoy your week off. You’ll be thrilled to know the Mexican Jets music is past the half way point.

Wow, you work fast! Can’t wait to hear it. Thanks Will!

That audio was perfection. The man at the bar. Sheer genius.

Archie Bunker's house is also across the street from the resting place of several mobsters, Charles Atlas (the subject of an upcoming post I'm working on) and Robert Mapplethorpe...Although most of the aforementioned figures are technically on the Middle Village side.

So many stories in these graveyards! Hemmerdinger's Atlas terminal (as I'm sure you know) was named after the strongman.

Congratulations on your one year of posts!! Love your newsletters, always something new and interesting in each one.

Was so surprised at the 2 George C’s and their Glendales!

Thanks Raquel! It can't just be a coincidence....

I had read that calling out sham mediums was one Houdini's pastimes so I was surprised to learn that his wife held an annual seance on the day of his death. She gave up after not hearing anything for 10 years, but the fact that they had a pact to try contact one another in the afterlife is telling.
