"...a black dog the size of a horse..." I have a fictional dog who might be able to fight that...
I'm a fan of Irving's work, so knowing of some of the facts behind "Sleepy Hollow" is great. I would say, given the Hebrew origins of his name, Ichabod Crane had the moniker he deserved.
It’s amazing how the words ‘black capped chickadee’ set off the B52’s Song for a Future Generation in my head. Enjoy your time in New Mexico and thanks for spooky and thoughtful (but now danceable) article.
Thank you, sir. My boyfriend, who is from Harlem, asked me why Signs Road was named as such. I had no idea. Hehe.
Did you catch the large bull's head on the side of the firehouse at Richmond Road and Lamberts Lane? The firefighters, like all firefighters in the city, are very proud of their home. :-)

The schoolmaster definitely deserved it, the Colonel, not so much…
Neat stuff, as usual. Have you been to Broad Channel?
I’ve been there a bunch, but haven’t written about it yet. Such a unique place! Thanks!
What a chilling story! No, not the headless horseman, the translucent dark slides! 😱
Ha! I agree, it was a real life nightmare.

Thanks Will! I think I will avoid listening to that tune as I don’t think I can handle a B52s earworm while travelling.
Of course, now that I write that, Rock Lobster is firmly in lodged in my auditory cortex
Oops
I appreciate the birding content. I had a northern flicker in my neighborhood just this week making the same wonderful racket.
The Signs Road stuff was spooky! Right up my alley, too. Wonder if it's still haunted.
There were some weird things in the woods off of Signs Road, but they seemed to be more teenager in origin than supernatural.
Even scarier!
real-life Ichabod Crane looks slightly terrified! Great article as always!
Thanks! I think he looks kind of bemused but it's a great picture either way.
That last photo of the pink tree surrounded by bare trees looks like it just shouldn't exist. What a contrast!
That's kind of like a metaphor for the entire borough!

Have a great trip!
Amazing, thank you! Chocolate Museum here I come!
The best part is that, like MoMA or LACMA, they market themselves as MuCho.
perfect!
Are you still shooting with a 4x5? Toyo 810M ?
or 35mm digital.
For this project, I am using a medium format digital, which has been working great - no fogging!
I've never been there, but always meant to. An army buddy (from 1961) lives there. And he was funny.

Also, there is a new photography exhibit at The Met featuring NYC photographers including Alice Austen. https://www.metmuseum.org/exhibitions/the-new-art-american-photography-1839-1910
I vaguely remember seeing that bulls head but for some dumb reason, didn’t make the connection! Thanks for the tip on the Met exhibition!
Lol. I didn't make the connection at first either till my dad was like, “we’re in Bulls Head…get it?” “ohhhhhh…”
At night, it lights up orange/red.
Enjoy!
