Thanks Owen! Yeah I was enamored by that rendering and even got a copy of a print of it off of eBay but I imagine the final result may have been a little less futuristic and a little more oppressive than they made it look. I’m sure it would’ve made a good subject to photograph though!
100,000 trees on the Edgemere landfill might be very cool, but it’s definitely not the last open space in New York. Floyd Bennett Field awaits a similar landscape art mega project.
I once took my students to play minigolf at Pier 25 for a fun excursion. We got there early, so I brought them to the Irish Hunger Memorial. What a great opportunity to connect a place of remembrance with a class lesson I once led about the world historical importance of the potato! To my chagrin, they couldn't have cared less.
I also spent three years working in an office at One World Trade. Can't beat the views. I got some great pictures from 900 feet above the city.
Well, those were her words not mine! FBF (one of my favorite I can't believe this is New York City places) looks like, for the time being, it will continue to be used as a convenient out of the way spot for housing migrants.
Potato famines are no match for mini golf. At least you got them off Tik Tok for 18 holes.
From now on, instead of “going bananas,” I’ll be “wharfing out!”
Very excited for “New Mannahatta.” I do think it will happenatta. In due time.
I love Battery Park City! I also love Poets House, except for all the poetry.
This issue’s audio is making my dog crazy, btw.
Every week my 50lb dog, who if given the opportunity is sitting in my lap while I'm editing, completely wharfs out when he hears the field recording.
Fascinating read, thank you Rob! What a shame (for me at least) that the original Harrison plan never came to fruition.

Stunning photos, Rob. I always learn so much from your newsletters. Thanks for doing the research and sharing it with us.
Thank you so much! So glad you're getting something out of it!
Give New Yorkers an opportunity to repurpose fallow land and they'll take it.
It’s the New Amsterdam roots!
“There’s a mall.”
Perfect end to that paragraph.
As always, so interesting and great photography. Excellent post and thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much John!
So much in this post and all so interesting. I love the wheatfield!
Thanks Katie! Agnes is amazing
