After last week's Vinegar Hill post, several people asked about the Commandant's House (pictured here), which I realized I may have given short shrift. After all, how many well-maintained early 19th-century mansions perched on a bluff on the corner of two of the city's shortest streets are there? Anyone who has wandered into this corner of Brooklyn and stumbled upon the 3-and-a-half-story building secreted away behind a 12-foot-high iron fence wants to know the story. I’ll get into it in a little more detail after the photos.
