Honored I made it into the collection! I actually have a whole project dedicated to dead ends of New York which was a precursor to this now all consuming Neighborhoods project.
Another fascinating story about a unique New York neighborhood. As a history buff, I revel in origin stories. In our present time, I am always amazed at the urban and suburban landscape, specifically how many ugly electrical lines crowd our field of view in most neighborhoods Our eyes and brains tend to ignore them, but they always stand out in photographs, almost as a reminder that we ought to design our streets a little better.
It's interesting you mention that neighborhood was historically referenced as "Frog's Neck" at one point. We'd cross the Throg's Neck Bridge often to get to my grandmother's house in Queens. And because I was a small child, and the name Throg's likely seemed too abstract for me, I always called it "Frog's Neck". I am still confused as to why the bridge has one G, while the neighborhood has two...
Another great post and, as ever, each photog(g)raph feels like it deserves its own story.
Thanks Will!
Had to Google “phonaesthetic.” Good word!
It's a word I like to casually drop into conversation when meeting someone for the first time.
Haha I was thinking Robert Moses just wanted to save on paint and then you wrote...

Thanks Nat! I haven’t been able to come up with a weird topic that doesn’t have its own Reddit forum. I can only imagine how weird it gets…
Oh wow just looked up on your site and I LOVE that project! Fantastic!
(And the frog video is pretty great too .)
Thanks Rob! I should update that page, I have a ton of dead ends. Story of my life
I've never really understood the "spirit animal" concept but mine is now the Black Rain Frog.
Anyway, another great one and LOVED the audio.
Also an addition to a collection I've been making secretly: https://murketing.tumblr.com/tagged/end

Blame it on Robert Moses
Oi, I blame a whole lot on Robert Moses...
Beauty and ugliness live side by side in New York.
Grew up in Throggs Neck's Country Club area. Loved living there. Still nice, but like with all things it's evolving. Call Vero Beach Florida home now.
