This was super interesting. I can remember a moment when everyone started talking about Two Bridges - a neighborhood I knew but had never heard referred to in that way. I wondered if it was a real estate driven re-brand!
Oh nice! Where on East Broadway? Those malls are really interesting though the 88 E.Broadway Mall is a little scary these days.
Make a series! Lots of potential, especially if you can get into the old dim sum place. The Curbed article I linked to is really fascinating for a little of the backstory.
I’d hoped to shoot some portraits and some environmental stuff in the mall a few years ago but the language barrier was a bit tricky and I think I was seen as very suspicious, which is reasonable. I’d have to take the time to develop some relationships I think. I still might try but I’m wondering how long they’ll last. I’ve
done some research but I need to read that curbed piece.
If anyone is interested in knowing a bit more about the fight against displacement in Chinatown and the Lower East Side, including the Two Bridges area, I recommend following the work of the Coalition to Protect Chinatown + LES. We continue to be very active in the fight against further luxury overdevelopment and for the passage of the FULL Chinatown Working Group Plan to protect the entire neighborhood from displacement. SO INTERESTING the thing with the farm and the street grid and the neighborhood boundaries!
The dog-rat pit thing is disgusting, but I'm a little jealous of the title, "Practical ratcatcher and insect destroyer." But even THAT's not as good as "Snakehead Sister Ping."
Is it too late to tear down One Manhattan Plaza, or too early?
Looking forward to one of those Tuesday evening concerts!

That was my first assumption too, but lo and behold..
Gorgeous photos, as always.
Thanks!
This is great! I live on East Broadway and I had no idea it was considered two bridges on the south side of the street.
I've also been a bit obsessed with those malls under the bridge. I tried to figure out a photo series with them but haven't figured out an in yet.

I’m in the Seward Park Co-Op.

Very educational for the non-New Yorker (as I am).
Thanks for checking it out David!

You need to look up Sister Ping’s story if you don’t know it already. Wish I could’ve gone into it.
She made $40 million and smuggled 3,000 people into the country.

Regarding OMS I recently learned they offer special deals for influencers so if you ever feel like moving out of Brooklyn...
Bookmarked the Snakehead to read. Thank you!
