Another great, intriguing (and funny, if you’re not a canary) article. I love your photography too. It’s helping me re-assess how to see the, very different, neighbourhoods near where I live.
I have to admit a certain skepticism about the reliability of the Times' neighborhoods mapping project. I have no idea how big the sample size is or whether it's skewed by drawing from Times readers.
So interesting ... maybe not on my 'must visit' list when I finally make it to NYC ... but fascinating history and pictures. I liked the house with the swans on the porch - doing their best. And those last two photos ... amazing how those buildings held up. Enjoyed this post very much!
Thanks John! I think you can save Pigtown for your second trip to the city. I love that there is such an extensive archive of pictures to refer back on to see how much the city has transformed and what few things remain unchanged.
As usual loved the pictures and the history of Pig Town. Also your account of your visit to Jerusalem Falafel House and fire.🔥 I love hot sauce and usually go for the hottest, but once or twice have had a similar experience.
Rob, did it strike you as well, while researching this great issue, that newspapers used to be a lot more fun?
Every week! It’s as if the New York Post headline writers got to write the whole article.

Thanks Will! Sometimes I'm overwhelmed by all there is to see. RIP canaries.
Based on having Pigtown, New York could easily have as sister cities Toronto (known as "Hogtown") and Cincinnati ("Porkopolis").
I thought you were making those up, but no! There still is a Pigtown in Baltimore.

Oh it's definitely skewed (Staten Island is a black hole) but still fun to reference.

Ask for the habanero if you dare...
Oops, that's Pigtown.
Can we expect to see soon in 'The Neighborhoods' Forest Hills? It has tons of history and music. Thanks.
For sure! Any recommendations?
Another great post Rob! I also loved the one you did for Co Op City.
Thanks Jim! This has been a fun project to work on - glad you're enjoying it!
